We are pleased to invite you to the SWS tournament that will be held at EGHC on the 14th and 16th July. The tournament is about friendship and hockey. The tournament has been running for over 25 years now and only having a break due to Covid. It is made up for 3 clubs EG in England, Rouen in France, and Flottbek in Germany. Every year it moves location and this year it is our turn to host.
We will be holding the tournament over 3 days, with our friends from overseas arriving on Friday 14th July and the hockey starting on Saturday 15th with mixed nationality team for U16 and U18 boys and U16/U18 Girls. Then on Sunday, they will play as their respective club.
Saturday will be a 7's tournament in which the teams will be made up of players from all 3 of the clubs, EG, Rouen and Flottbek. This is so that new friendships can be formed from the outset. Player's will be allocated to teams on arrival and will be provided with a t-shirt which they will play in, and which will be theirs to keep. We will also provide lunches for the players and dinner on both Saturday and Sunday.
Saturday night we are planning to take the kids down to Brighton to have dinner and fun on the pier. Transport will be provided.
Sunday will be full matches so 11 a side and will be played as their Club team.
The Hockey will start at 9am both days and if you would like to take part, please complete the form below or if you are interested to email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
One of the big parts of this tournament is that we host all the foreign players with a family, and we ask that if you child is playing that you open you house to a couple or more players of similar age to your child for the weekend. All they need is a space on the floor and breakfast in the morning. We will feed and water them the rest of the weekend.
The cost for the weekend would be £110 per child and includes the following : -
Background to explain SWS.
SWS stands for Sebastian Wolff Stiftung and is a foundation created by Hinrich and Doni Wolff in memory of their late son Sebastian. Sebastian went from his home in Hamburg to Rouen in France in 2000 to study and play hockey. He was financed but another hockey foundation. Then in 2002 after tragic car accident whilst in Rouen, Sebastian lost his life. His parents Hinrich and Doni decided to create a Hockey foundation to honour his memory.
What the foundation does
The objection of Sebastian Wolff Foundation is for International Hockey Youth Exchange. This is to allow young hockey players to visit others European cities within the framework of their school education in order to deepen and extends their education. The opportunity to play hockey in local clubs during their stay in the foreign country will give the young sportsman and women the possibility to socialize with other young people and hence to promote a better understanding within European youth.
These objectives are being globally followed up. There is no priority among them. The Foundation achieves its aims especially by providing dwelling places, cooperation with state or private educational institutions as well as with companies able to offer apprenticeships and or professional internships in the respective country. The foundations cares for the necessary financial conditions for the respective young player during his/her stay in the chosen country However, the Foundation does not take over their private expenses.
EGHC has been part of SWS for over 20 years and has close links with both Flottbek HC in Hamburg, Germany and Rouen HC in France since 1949, these 3 clubs make up the Tournament every year. This year due to covid our friends from France and Germany are not able to travel and we would welcome the opportunity to extend the great work SWS does for us to other local clubs that could benefit and youth players that would love the opportunity to be part of the exchange program and play internationally.
