Membership of EGHC entitles the member to affiliate membership of East Grinstead Sports Club (EGSC), and enables the overall site to operate via the Charity that owns the site,  land and infrastructure (including pitch, floodlights and dugouts).  £20 from each membership subscription is also diverted to the EGHC "sinking fund" which is a savings fund, held by the Sports Club Charity and is building a reserve to enable us to replace our fantastic water-based astro turf and related facilities when the time comes.

Why Join ?

East Grinstead Hockey Club is one of the foremost hockey clubs in the country; we are one of only two clubs to compete in both genders in both the Outdoor and Indoor Premier Leagues. Our philosophy is to provide an environment for performance, grass roots development and sport for all across both genders. Our Junior section (for those from 5 to 18) membership includes boys and girls from more than 25 schools in the area including Lingfield, Worth, Ardingly, Brambletye, Sackville, Imberhorne, Great Walstead, Copthorne Prep, Cumnor House, Bedes, Halsford Park, Handcross Park, Burgess Hill, Hazelwood, Sevenoaks, Whitgift, Reigate, Oxted, Woldingham and Caterham to name but a few.

Players from EGHC have represented England and Great Britain (and several other countries) at Olympic Games, World Cups, European and Commonwealth competitions and several have won medals. Famously Ian Taylor and Richard Leman secured Olympic Bronze at LA in 1984 followed by Olympic Gold at Seoul in 1988. More recently Laura Roper (nee Unsworth) and Sophie Bray secured Olympic Gold at Rio in 2016 while Laura also secured Bronze at London 2012 and Tokyo 2020. Ellie Rayer also secured a Bronze at Tokyo, and she, along with Tess Howard, Laura and Lily Walker secured Commonwealth Gold at the 2022 Games in Birmingham.

During the Paris 2024 Olympics, Laura Roper and Tess Howard from East Grinstead are representing Great Britain while Lily Walker and Grace Balsdon are travelling reserves. The Captain of Germany, Matts Grambusch is a former East Grinstead Player who has won Olympic Gold as well as World Cup Gold in the past.

EGHC is an ambitious club and operates an England Hockey Talent Academy for those hoping to enter the England Hockey pathway. It also operates hockey day camps through the EGHC Academy, and offers a range of opportunities for youngsters to enjoy the sport at all levels. Both our Mens and Womens Performance Teams have experience of competing in European competition; the women most recently in Amsterdam in April 2024. East Grinstead Men have won the National Premier League 3 times and the National Indoor title 14 times; in fact they are the most successful Indoor side in England. East Grinstead Women have won the National Premier League once (in 2023) and the Indoor Title 4 times.

The club is blessed with a fabulous facility situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty, with its own water-based astro turf, club house with bar and excellent changing rooms as well as facilities for a range of other sports - also part of the wider East Grinstead Sports Club.
