State of the Art Water-Based Astro-Turf

The EGHC Pitch is a state of the art "water based" pitch, from Edelgrass. Water based pitches are used in the Olympic Games, World Cup, Commonwealth Games and European Nations competitions. They are performance surfaces providing the best possible playing experiences for players young and old alike. Water based surfaces are far superior to "hybrid" surfaces, sand based surfaces and "3G" surfaces. The water applied to the surface aids in the play of the ball across the surface and leads to dramatic effect as players ply their trade during training and matches.

Water lubricates the pitch, allowing for quicker and smoother play, giving the ball a true and uniform roll. It allows players to easily manoeuvre the ball with the stick without it catching. A water based pitch also further reduces the risk of injury as there is less chance of scrapes to the skin when compared to sand or hybrid alternatives. It allows freer movement of the body, so is kinder on knees and ankle joints.

There really is no better hockey experience than playing the game on a water based surface. East Grinstead's ground is widely considered to be one of the best in the country. Situated in a natural "bowl" creating a spectacular amphi-theatre effect, with excellent shock absorption under the astro-turf surface, internationals simply love the experience of playing matches on East Grinstead's pitch, and so will you !

Seating and Spectator Facilities

The natural amphi-theatre of EGHC's water-based astro is complimented by a set of seating along the side of the pitch. Providing a great vantage point from which to watch and support during practices and matches, the seating and overall spectator experience is highly popular on match days. Along side the seating is a small outdoor bar serving soft drinks and alcohol, frequently accompanied by a BBQ. The areas around the seating is covered by shock pads and astro-turf enabling the youngsters and any four-legged friends to run around in close proximity.

Environmentally Friendly LED Floodlights

EGHC's pitch is lit up beautifully in the evenings thanks to the LED lighting installed just a few years back. This lighting reduces light pollution (focusing the light on the pitch and significantly reducing mis-directed light) and consumes less power or spare parts than traditional light-bulbs.

Club House (on site ;) Always Open for Food and Drink

EGHC is blessed with a wonderful club house with fabulous bar, spacious seating areas, two large screen TVs, free wifi and great staff. Come in from the rain and grab a coffee from our baristas (and take it back outside again if you like), or sit in the bar area. From here you can even watch the hockey live-streamed from our pitch, or chat with friends. Varied menus are available for any visitor as well as a fully licensed bar. Teams can eat together in our dining area just a few steps from the bar, and they too have their own large screen either streaming the hockey, or displaying relevant current content. The whole setup is dressed with trophies, honours, reminders of our heritage and with comfy seating and tables.

Clean, Heated Changing Rooms with (warm) Showers

Our fabulous changing rooms are clean, modern and in excellent condition. Showers are great too ! We know how important it is for our members and visitors to have a secure place to change and lock while they go out and play, with plenty of space for all that kit. We also know it's great to get changed and prepare for those all important matches and training sessions in a clean environment. The changing rooms are heated too ! There are safe power points for hair dryers or music players and plenty of hangers for kit and items of clothing.

Guest Wifi

EGHC has invested in wireless technology around our pitch and has made that available to all visitors. The wifi is equipped with security policies and technology to minimise risk of inappropriate content being accessed, and during the 2024 / 2025 season will provide high speed broadband enabling spectators to check up on match action elsewhere and stay connected to family and friends. Guest wifi is free at EG.

Security

Security is top of mind at EG and security cameras are mounted at key points around our ground including monitoring entrance and exit points to the pitch which have high volumes of traffic. We also monitor the dug-outs by the side of the pitch. In compliance with data protection, video is retained for a limited number of days before being deleted, but we are able to use this video in many cases to help to reduce the risk of lost property.

Indoor Hall

East Grinstead Hockey Club is blessed with fabulous facilities to aid in the development of indoor hockey. EG Men are the most successful indoor club in the UK with a total of 14 national indoor titles, while EG women are accumulating their own trophy haul with four titles so far, including one in February 2024. East Grinstead's indoor hall is key to that progression and from Autumn 2024, will be utilised for a Junior Indoor Hockey Programme. To maximise the benefit of the hall, EGHC has implemented video technology for the recording and streaming of training and matches taking place in the Indoor Hall. This means that players and teams can review the effectiveness of their training drills as well as how well they execute what they learn during competitive match play. This provides a great opportunity for youngsters who need video of their sporting achievements to support GCSE assessments as well as those hungry to develop their game . Email us to enquire

PADEL !!!!!

Padel is coming to East Grinstead. For those familiar with our site, the top netball courts will be converted to a set of covered Padel courts by Christmas. This will offer a fantastic additional opportunity for exercise ON SITE at East Grinstead and just a few paces away from our lovely water-based astro turf. East Grinstead Sports Club Gym

During Winter 2023 / 2024, East Grinstead Sports Club invested heavily in new "state of the art" gym equipment. This significant investment means that those who choose to join EGSC's gym will benefit from connected equipment, superb supervision and strength & conditioning guidance as well as an immaculate environment with video and audio while training. Hockey Club members benefit from promotions, and being located on site - with indoor hall and sports club bar / cafe, sauna, excellent changing rooms all in the same building - means that parents can take advantage of the facilities while young ones train and play hockey.
