EG Mens 1st Team win in a final dramatic play of the game ! Click through for more...
East Grinstead Mens 1st Team delivered sensational entertainment for the Faithful on Saturday night, October 14th. With only three points on the table so far, a win was required and the entire squad stepped up with a focused and disciplined performance.
EG opened the scoring with a Simon Faulkner short corner into the bottom left corner. EG subsequently went close with open play shots from Hugh Pembroke and Josh Gravestock but both were blocked or just wide.
Cardiff & Met equalised in the second quarter following some confusing and a scramble in the circle.
A Daniel Faulkner corner strike in the 3rd quarter brought a sharp save from the Cardiff & Met 'keeper but he parried it into the path of debut player Trev De Lora. Trev's snap-shot smashed against the corner of the post and flew back into play but not to the advantage of the EG attack.
EG were lucky in Q4 when a cross-shot from left to right just could not be deflected in by the Cardiff attack. Soon afterwards a double save by Richard Curtis kept the scores level at 1:1 with less than 5 minutes remaining.
Gradually the clock ticked down and EG secured a corner with seconds to go. By the time the sides were ready to take the short corner, we were at 00:00 remaining and the pressure ramped up.
Max Lower took the drag flick but it was charged down by the Cardiff runner; however it fell to Max's reverse side and he swept it towards the goal. A deflection presented the ball to Hugh Pembroke who calmly slotted home with the last play of the match to the rapturous applause of the EG Faithful.
