EG Womens 1st Team secured three vital points on Saturday October 14th. Click through for more !
EG W1 hosted Clifton Robinsons in the England Hockey Premier League on Saturday. The last time the two sides met was in April at the 22/23 Playoffs Semi final in an incredibly tight match that ended 3:3 followed by a dramatic set of Penalty Shuffles. On that day, EG secured their place in the final with a 9:8 Shuffles win. Issy Field (pictured) was one of the heroines on that day and she had another splendid game this time around, making a string of acrobatic saves at key points in the match.
The scoring was opened by Sophie Bray from a tight angle on the left of the Clifton goal following nice team play. EG's second goal was scored by Tess Howard, receiving the ball from a Corner and bringing onto her reverse side; a sharp low shot headed for the bottom right corner was deflected past the goalkeeper by a scrambling Clifton defender to make the score 2:0 to EG.
Sally Sime stepped up for the third goal, deflecting in on the reverse following great teamwork from Ellie Rayer and Laura Roper.
EG's final goal, again from Tess Howard was pure determination: Tess pressed the Clifton defended along the baseline inside the circle and managed to steal the ball. shoot through two defenders and (again with the help of a defender deflection) place the ball in the top right hand corner.
Overall an extremely positive performance with excellent teamwork. Notable also was the return of Amy Thompson to the line-up after a period out with injury.
