EG Mens 1st Team Introduces new Coaching Setup

East Grinstead Hockey Club Men's 1st Team has completed the process of appointing a new Head coach and is now preparing for the 2023 / 2024 Season. 

We are thrilled that Wes Jackson has agreed to take on the role of Head Coach for the Men's 1st team. In addition, Mike Williamson will join the coaching staff alongside Joe Oddy as Assistant Coach, further strengthening the team's leadership.

Wes Jackson brings a wealth of experience and a deep connection to East Grinstead. As a lifetime member of the club, Wes' appointment will come as no surprise. We has been a key driver in the development of the club's overall coaching setup over the past few years impacting positively on many facets of the club. He recently coached the Men's 2nd team, as well as coaching within the exceptionally strong Whitgift School Hockey programme.

Wes has enjoyed an impressive playing career with East Grinstead, having represented the Men's 1st team for a prolonged period. He wore the club's jersey in several high-profile competitions, including the Euro Hockey League, the English Premier League and the Indoor 6s. His invaluable experience as a player will undoubtedly contribute to the team's growth and success on the field as will his deep understanding of the team and club's core values.

Joining Wes on the coaching staff is Mike Williamson, who will join as an Assistant Coach. Mike brings an extensive playing career and a wealth of coaching experience. He represented Hounslow for a number of years in the top flight as well as representing Wales from 1985-2001. In addition, Mike has a strong background in high-level coaching, with over 15 years of National League coaching experience to his name including involvement in the coaching setup during three Premier League title winning seasons in the late 2000's.

Joe Oddy will also remain in place as Assistant Coach to the Mens 1st Team working alongside Wes and Mike in the newly formed coaching set up. Joe has been involved with the team at East Grinstead since 2021 and the club has benefited from Joe's positive influence on the playing group.

East Grinstead Hockey Club is excited about the future prospects of the Men's 1st team under the guidance of Wes Jackson as the Head Coach and Mike Williamson and Joe Oddy as Assistant Coaches. Their combined experience, knowledge, and passion for the sport will undoubtedly create a positive and competitive environment in which the players will thrive.
