East Grinstead Hockey Club made history at Derby yesterday, now securing 20 Indoor titles combined for both the Men & Women. With our Women's First Team winning their third National Indoor title in a row. The only other Women's team to have won three in a row is by Slough HC & Hightown HC.
They faced off against rivals Surbiton in the second Semi Final, with our opponents starting quickly to lead 2-0 in Q2, before a quick response from EGHC saw them score six goals in eight minutes, with Biba Mills, Rosie Hope, Annelyse Tevant, Carlota Gomez and Chloe Brown all getting on the scoresheet, this meant our girls went in to the half time break 6-2 up. The second half proved to be another tightly contested affair as EG held out for a 8-4 win.
They faced Sutton Coldfield in the Final, who had narrowly won their Semi Final 1-0 against Holcombe. Our opponents set up in a defensive shape, forcing EG to be patient in their play and take their chances when they could. However, a great team performance, and goals from Carlota Gomez and Biba Bills, saw them take the victory with a 2-1 win that earned them their third indoor title in a row, something never before done by a women's side. Congratulations to Biba Mills who was top goal scorer yesterday with eight goals!
A huge achievement, which now sees the club make history with our 20th Indoor title combined for both the Men & the Women, making EG the most successful indoor club in the country - the first title won back in 1987.
Congratulations to the players, coaching and management team. Thank you to all our supporters who made the long trip to Derby!
