During the first few weeks of the 24/25 season, we will finalise the implementation of new match video technology at EG. Click through for more...
At East Grinstead Hockey Club, we are blessed with a fabulous site, providing everything we need at one location. The astro-turf is just a few paces away from the car parking, changing rooms and bar, and of course from the Indoor Hall. For some time we have been developing plans to harness technology to improve our members' experience and this year we will take a big step in that direction.
Having tested match live-streaming for the last three seasons, we have found that we already have the largest Hockey Club YouTube channel in the UK and yet we are only streaming the Mens and Womens 1st Teams. We need to put this right and make live streaming more inclusive across the whole club; all teams, both genders and adults as well as juniors.
The solution we will be putting in place around the astro-turf will provide us with the ability to record all training sessions as well as matches. This means players can not only look at their match performances but they can also review their training sessions as well.
Players will be able to see where they can improve, compare with each other and also utilise the video footage where appropriate for GCSE assessments.
We expect the technology to be up and running during October, and to help maximise the benefits we have done one or two other things as well.
We have re-furbished a meeting room upstairs near to the hospitality area, to use for match and training video analysis. We plan to run workshops for age groups to learn how to assess their skills and performance using video. Those working sessions will be facilitated by our most experienced coaches and players and will use our own footage as well as footage of international and premier league matches. We think this will provide a transformative opportunity for young players to develop their game.
Video is a key part of player development. Universities, top clubs, Talent Academies and representative sides all make extensive use of video and associated tools. We believe it will help the enjoyment and development of our young players. Check out the video below to see Ed Collingwood of our Boys U16 side, discussing video analysis to Rosie Hope (Womens 1s) and Louis Tipper (Mens 1s).
But it does not stop at the outdoor hockey.
We are in the process of installing permanent video technology in the Indoor Hall as well, so that we can also live stream indoor matches and record indoor training for performance analysis and coaching.
Think: Junior Indoor Programme
These are great innovations that really show the potential of our amazing site and facility. It will be possible to run a training session with specific skills drills and repetitions, and then go upstairs and review with coaches straight away, as well as taking the video away for further study.
Video is key at EG.
