Men's Club Captain - Update

Mike-Club-Captain

As we say thank you to Jordan for his three years of service as the Men's Club Captain we welcome someone new...

Jordan a huge thank you for your time as EGHC Men's Club Captain these past three years. However we now welcome Mike who will be taking over from him.

A message from Jordan: "Thank you for all your support over the past three years. It's been a pleasure being club captain and working with you all. I only wish I could have dedicated more time in the last year.

As I've mentioned, I'm not going anywhere. I'll be helping Mike as he settles in, and I hope to support in other areas too".

Please read below Mike's letter to all club members:

Dear EGHC members,

For those who don't know me, I have been a member of EGHC since 2009, all be it with a brief hiatus at university and more recently a 9 month trip round Asia, and have therefore been a member for over half my adult life. My grandfather, father and a number of my uncles were members of the club, and so I feel I have a deep affinity towards it. It has been an amazing journey with countless memories including badgers, the socials in the clubhouse, touring Hamburg and Rouen on our SWS and JPT tours, and the opportunity to follow our Men's first team on the highest stage both domestically and in Europe. Today, I'm standing here because I want to give back and help lead us into the future.

I have played for all Men's teams from the 7s to the 2s, and am presently awaiting for the call up from Wesley for the 1s, however, I think the closest I will ever get to being apart of the squad will be as part of the vocal supporters group on the sidelines, often known as the EG Faithful. I love the camaraderie that comes with team sports, turning up to the club on the weekend whether that be to umpire, coach or play, for me it is the highlight of the week and as a result some of my closest friends come from within the club.

At Saint Hill we're incredibly lucky to be part of a club that offers some of the best facilities in the country, and therefore I encourage you to make the most of these opportunities, not only to play but to involve yourself in the social aspect within our club. With both our men's and women's teams playing in the Premier Division, our club are not just participants, we're competitors at the highest level. Despite being a small town from West Sussex, we have competed at this level for a number of decades, with the name East Grinstead synonymous across the hockey community. However, at the same time we are one of the few Premier clubs that is able to maintain a family feel around the clubhouse. I want to make sure we keep building on that legacy and keep pushing ourselves to be even better.

I am immensely proud to be the new Men's Club Captain and couldn't be more excited to represent our 127 year old club.

I want to take a moment to thank Jordan Torrilla for everything he has done over then last few seasons. His dedication and hard work has made a huge difference, and he has set a great example for all of us. I know I have big shoes to fill.

As club captain, my number one goal will be to make sure every player feels supported, motivated and involved. Whether you've been here for years or just joined, I want to make sure everyone feels part of this club. We have a number of volunteers and committee members who work incredibly hard under the radar, and this can't be taken for granted. Therefore, I am also asking for your support and anyone who feels able to contribute please feel free to contact myself or Chris, our chairman. Help make this season a memorable one, and to reinforce our status as not only the Premier club in Sussex, but the UK.

I look forward to seeing you all very soon.

Yours sincerely,

Michael Lewis

Men's Club Captain
