East Grinstead will be looking to turn around two scores from Phase I of the Premier League this coming weekend. The matches bring together teams with a rich history in the game and matches that invariably produce tense, exciting hockey with plenty of goals. Surbiton and EG have both won the Womens Premier League and Beeston and EG have both won the Mens Premier League. This is a double header for suppoerters and neutrals alike.
On October 21st, Surbiton visited EG during Phase I of the Womens Premier League. Surbiton secured a convincing 4:1 win on that day with East Grinstead's consolation goal provided by Laura Roper. EG will be looking for another good team performance to build on their Phase II start against Reading on Saturday Feb 10th. Surbiton however have been the stand-out women's team of the last decade and remain the "team to beat", currently sitting at the top of the top 6, 8 points clear of second placed Reading and 11 points clear of EG.
On September 23rd (the second match of the season), EG Men made the journey up to Beeston but lost 5:3. Disappointed with the result, the team will be looking to turn things around in the home fixture; a match-up that has seen many a "battle royal" over the years. As things stand, EG are actually two points ahead of Beeston, but every point counts as both sides, as well as local rivals Oxted, look to secure one of the top two spots in the Lower 6 that will put them in the mix for the business end of the season. This would mean joining the Top 6 sides for "Phase III" and the chance to cause an upset in the Playoff process.
