News & Notes…

Back after a brief hiatus, here's what's been going on the last few weeks…

Almost now to the halfway point of what's generally been quite a tough 2017/18 season to date, with just two weekends worth of games still to be played before we break for the festive holidays.

A win and a loss rounded out the first half for the Ladies 1's league campaign, and they followed that with defeat in their opening round of the EH Tier 1 cup. They sit 5th in the league.

Similar tale for the Men, with a loss followed by a win to finish, the latter a tense 1-0 victory in rapidly freezing conditions late of a Saturday evening. They too finish the year in 5th place.

The Ladies 2's undefeated streak came to an end at 8 games with a 0-1 reverse away at Surbiton, but they've bounced back with a convincing victory over Trojans and presently sit 3rd in the league, trailing leaders Spencer by 6 points.

Their latest game saw them overcome Jersey 1-0 in the 3rd round of the EH Tier 2 cup.

A Jekyll and Hyde League vs. Cup season continues for the Men's 2's as they've finished the first half of the season in 11th with just 1 league win.

Cup form is a different story as they've now also advanced to the 3rd round of the EH Tier 2 Cup, as a Josh Coniglio hat-trick led the way to a 4-1 win away at Eastbourne 1's.

The Ladies 3's have won 3 of their last 4, and are slowly climbing back up the table; they're now 8th, their highest placing so far this season.

A difficult run for the Men's 3's, as they've now lost 4 straight matches, scoring in only one of them. If there's a silver lining it's that over that run, they've faced 4 of the top 5 sides in their division, and travel to 4th placed Mid Sussex this week to complete the set –so, on paper at least, some easier games await after the holidays. For the time being though they're 11th in the table, and with just 4 points spanning the bottom 4, it's all to play for.

The Ladies 4's lost for the first time in four games, following after a pair of draws in the preceding weeks. Firmly ensconced in mid table, they've now been in either 6th or 7th place for the last 7weeks.

The Men's 4's sit in 12th after 3 straight defeats, but despite the results they've put in some creditable performances considering a number of the squad are enjoying their first taste of senior league hockey.

In the development leagues, the Bluebirds and Badgers are placed 5th and 4th respectively.

The Saints secured their first point of the season with a 3-3 away draw at Richmond, they're 10th, albeit with games in hand over most of the league thanks to a somewhat erratic schedule.

And last but not least, the Vets, who continue undefeated in league and cup. Since last we wrote they've beaten Jersey in the EH O40's cup (on strokes), and then claimed a point away at Reading in a top of the table showdown.

The only slight blemish being that a couple idle weeks have allowed Reading to leapfrog them in the table, so they're now 2nd, 2points behind, but with a game in hand – against Tulse Hill at home this weekend.
