A round up of last season & looking ahead to the 2026/27 season from our Men's 1s & 2s Performance coaches.

Meet Wes Jackson Men's 1s Head Coach & Josh Green our Men's 2s Head Coach. Together they make up our Men's Performance Coaches here at EGHC. We asked them a few questions and here's what they had to say:

Wes Jackson:

What do you love about the EGHC?

"It's been my home club since I was about 14. What makes EGHC special is the people, the family, the support, and the environment that's created not just in the clubhouse and on the pitch, but in day to day life for me and the players. It's a club that genuinely looks after one another"

A round up of last season:

"Last summer highlighted how divided the league has become due to the format, alongside a noticeable shift in player loyalty. Losing 8 of our starting 11, along with several others, created understandable apprehension heading into September and the start of the league campaign.
However, the group that came together proved that hard work, commitment, and playing for the badge can be just as valuable as Premier League experience. The addition of Kiwi influence through Brad Read and Jonty Elmes strengthened the spine of the team. Jonty went on to become one of the league's top goalscorers, consistently delivering in high-pressure moments, while Brad brought experience, professionalism, and leadership, becoming a father figure to many in the squad. Dan Faulkner lead the squad by example and players coming back from University and young players pushing through from the juniors showed the strength of the club's pathway.

We narrowly missed out on the top six by just one point. While we achieved a strong result against 6th place Oxted in Phase 1, we dropped points, including three draws against bottom six sides. This ultimately cost us as we found our feet and gelled as a new unit.
By Phase 2, however, the group really started to come together. The work rate, togetherness, and belief within the squad improved noticeably. The support from off the pitch was incredible and played a huge role in driving the team forward. What could have been a tight Phase 2, turned into a strong showing, with the boys demonstrating their quality to secure 7th place and build momentum heading into Phase 3.

Phase 3 presented a tough challenge, with fixtures against Old Georgians, Wimbledon, and Oxted. A demanding double header in 30-degree heat against OGs and Wimbledon, who went on to finish 1st and 2nd respectively, proved difficult, and we were unable to produce an upset. However, we finished on a high with another away win against Oxted, completing the double over our local rivals and showcasing just how far the group had come.

I'd like to say a huge thank you to all the volunteers and everyone at the club for their backing throughout the season. A special thank you to the coaching staff for their hard work and to the players, both those who stayed loyal during a challenging offseason and those who joined and contributed to a fantastic campaign. It was a season full of development, opportunities, debutants, and the return of several players from University, all of which made a real impact"

Thoughts for this coming 2026/27 season?

"The upcoming season promises to be an exciting one as we push for a top six finish. The transfer market has been busy, but we've retained over 90% of the squad, meaning the group will be more experienced, more cohesive, and better prepared.
We've also added some exciting new players who will complement our culture of hard work, togetherness, and playing for each other. Preparations are already underway, with coaching staff and player meetings taking place and a clear focus on continuing to build on last season's progress.
Personally, I'm really looking forward to working with this group again, a group that is committed, driven, and fully invested in the team and the club. Combined with the incredible support and environment EGHC provides, there's every reason to be optimistic about what we can achieve this season"

Josh Green:

What do you love about the EGHC?

"The club feels like a second home to me, everyone is so friendly and all in together on the performance of the club as a whole. With everyone knowing each other you are never far from a friendly face"

A round up of last season:

"We had a bit of a mixed start, with one loss and one draw early on, but from there the squad really found its stride. The response was unbelievable — 19 wins on the bounce to finish the season and secure the league title.

The success didn't happen by accident. It came from a lot of hard work, commitment, and the willingness of everyone to keep pushing standards week after week. Just as importantly, there was a great atmosphere around the team all season. The positive energy, togetherness, and support for one another made a huge difference when it mattered most.

To bounce back from an early setback and then put together a run of 19 straight wins says everything about the character of this group. A brilliant year, a deserved league title, and plenty of memories to take away from an outstanding season"

Thoughts for this coming 2026/27 season?

"Looking ahead, we're excited to test ourselves in the league above and compete against stronger opposition. We also want to make a strong challenge in the Tier 2 Cup and see how far we can go.

Our focus remains simple: work hard, keep improving, and continue developing the talent within the squad. There will be new challenges ahead, but also new opportunities. We will maintain the positive attitude, commitment, and togetherness that drove last season's success, we're confident we can make a real impact in the year ahead.

With a hungry squad behind me I am excited for what we are going to achieve this season"
