On January 18th EGHockey welcomed three Jersey teams to EGHC to continue the growing relationship between the two clubs.
Our visitors set off at 4am (!) catching a flight to London Gatwick before the hockey got under way.
The Under 12/14 Girls took on Jersey U14's at Lingfield College. Playing 4x25minutes with a squad of 20 players our girls played some great hockey to come away as 8-1 winners, with the hockey played in fantastic, and competitive, spirit between the two teams. The Jersey squad awarded A. Srinivasan and F. Ward as the East Grinstead MVP's - congratulations to them and the team!
The big game of the day was the Tier 2 National Cup fixture for our U16 Girls T2 team in the last 32 of the cup. It was an incredibly tight affair with EGHC taking an early lead before Jersey fought back to equalise. With both teams looking just as likely to score it was East Grinstead who found the winner and came away with the 2-1 win to the delight of the home crowd.
Our U14 Boys had a triangular against Jersey and Knole Park for their day of hockey. EG U14s started the day with a 7-2 Tier 2 League win against Knole Park, before coming unstuck against a good Jersey team - losing out 3-1 in a high quality contest. Well done to all three teams who were excellent representative of their clubs!
All teams were treated to match teas in the clubhouse as the day provided all juniors with a chance to form connections with other hockey clubs.
Thank you to all the volunteers who organised the day! Another big thank you to the coaches, umpires, managers and parents who all played a big part in allowing all the players to enjoy the hockey.
