Grinstead aim to top the tree at Christmas
NIALL STOTT wants to be top of the tree at Christmas after another big weekend for East Grinstead. A 4-0 win at home to bottom-of-the table Canterbury moved Grinstead three points clear at the top of NOW: Pensions Men's Premier Division. They have now won eight out of nine games, with their only defeat coming at home to Wimbledon who they face again away on Sunday.
Grinstead's aim is to be top at Christmas, which would be guaranteed if they win their next two games before hockey switches indoors for the winter. Saturday's success moved them above Surbiton, who went into the weekend top on goal difference but lost 4-1 at home to Wimbledon. Grinstead have already beaten Surbiton and third-placed Beeston. Two more wins in the next two games would leave them in a good position to win the premier division for a second successive season but more significantly all but guarantee a top four finish which would take them into the championship play-offs at the end of the season. Having beaten Beeston 3-2 away the previous weekend, captain Stott knew it was important to follow that with a victory at home to the side propping up the table.
