Mens 1st Team Pre-season in Full Swing

DSC03047

EGHC Men's 1st Team pre-season activities and at full speed with a number of younger players making debuts as well as Glenn Kirkham picking up Head Coach duties over the past week.  During August the squad took part in the Tonbridge Nines tournament, last week a training match was held at Whitgift against Durham University and on Saturday September 2nd, the boys took on Canterbury in their first home match of the 2017 / 2018 season.

Back in August, our Mens 1st Team started playing pre-season matches at the Tonbridge Nines tournament securing 3 wins in this exciting and free flowing format of the game.  Thursday 31st of August saw a 4:2 win against Durham University and on Saturday (2nd September) the team secured a 3:1 win against Canterbury at home.  Coaching duties during much of pre-season have been led by Patrick Smith, Dom Bowden and Simon Faulkner, but the past two matches have seen the return of Glenn Kirkham to the group as he takes up his post of Head Coach.

Over the past week, the coaching team has seen a further addition alongside Glenn as Head Coach and Patrick Smith as Assistant Coach.  Richard Payne has joined the coaching team, as Assistant coach alongside Patrick.  Richard brings further strength to the coaching setup following a very impressive spell at Sevenoaks where he took the squad into the East Conference and led their rise in the Indoor Premier League.  Richard was also Mens 1st Team Captain when EG won  two premiership titles in 2008 and 2009.  Richard has been a life-long member of EG with the exception of his spell at Sevenoaks and also plays for our Vets team.

Patrick Smith took up his position as Assistant Coach back in July and brings more international experience to the coaching setup alongside Glenn.  Patrick has represented England and Great Britain at Senior Level and has many years experience at National Premier League level having joined EG from Cannock a few seasons ago.  His commanding presence in our goal marshalling the defence will continue !  We look forward to supporting this formidable coaching team as they begin the Premier League proper on Saturday September 23rd at home.
