The top 24 Club sides in Europe compete in the Euro Hockey League, which was formed in 2007.  This season it will be played over four weekends between October 2011 and May 2012.  East Grinstead qualified for this competition for the first time in 2008 by finishing runners up in the SEHL Premier Division.  Winning their group matches in Lille in October 2008, against Waterloo Ducks (3-2)from Belgium and Kelburne (3-0) from Scotland meant they progressed to the KO16 stage in Hamburg in April 2009. They beat St Germain 3-2 to reach the quarter finals, which they lost 3-2 to the eventual EHL Champions, Bloemendaal.

Grinstead were crowned EH Premier Division Champions in April 2009, thus qualifying for the EHL competition for the second year running. They travelled to St Germain for Round 1 of the competition, beating Polish team Poznan 4-1, but losing 2-1 to Amsterdam. Video link to EG v Poznan here; EG v Amsterdam here

This was enough to qualify for KO16 in Rotterdam, where they faced Round 1 group winners Amsterdam once again. Despite taking the lead twice, they lost the match 3-2 and were out of the competition. Video link here

EG successfully defended their Premier League Title with a comprehensive 5-1 victory over Surbiton in the Championship semi-final, and a thrilling Championship Final win over Beeston in May 2010.  They have thus qualified for the EHL competition for the third year running. They will represent England alongside Beeston and Reading. Venues and dates for Round 1 have yet to be announced.

The games are screened live in many European countries, and last year British Eurosport showed extensive highlights of matches involving English clubs.  We will publish broadcasting schedules when they become available.
